BÄKO Mitteldeutschland eG. is a service and logistics company that looks after around 650 bakers and confectioners in Saxony and Thuringia and supplies them with all the products and machines necessary for the bakery business. The facility, which was originally built in the mid-90s, was extensively expanded by our office in 2007 and the logistics were reorganized.

The new expansion, completed in 2020, was necessary due to a comprehensive change in the bakery industry, which required significantly larger freezer capacity.

The challenge of this measure lay in particular in the demanding topography, the suboptimal terrain and the directly adjacent street. In addition, the measure had to be implemented in the shortest possible time without affecting logistics operations.

The necessary structural freedom was created with the upstream construction of an impressive secant bored pile wall with a depth of up to 19m.

The cold storage facility was built as a house-in-house solution using passive house construction to cope with the extreme temperature differences of up to 60K. In terms of energy, a photovoltaic system was built that generates a large part of the energy required - the deep-freezing technology is intelligently controlled. Planning during construction ensured complete completion within 22 months of the start of planning.
